Military hardware and Firepower on show
Around 170 Russian and foreign companies are taking part in the international exhibition of defence technology and ground forces “VTTV-Omsk-2009, which began today and will finish on 6th June.
According to PIA News, 167 businesses and firms including 90 Russian, 5 foreign and 72 Omsk based companies will be taking part in the event. For the first time at “VTTV-Omsk-2009” foreign businesses will actively participate at the exhibition. About 100 foreign specialist from 30 countries including: Algeria, Belgium, Great Britain, Germany, Israel, Indonesia, Italy, India, Canada, China, Nigeria, Norway, USA, Finland, France, Sweden, and Japan will be visiting the event. The overall exhibition area is 16,500 square metres, this area will hold 50 examples of military and civilian technology. The off-road and firepower capabilities of about 30 examples of military hardware and dual-purpose equipment including the T-80 and T-90S tanks, the upgraded T-55, T-62, BTRT and BMP will all be demonstrated at the 242 paratrooper-training centre. This demonstration will be broadcast live via satellite uplink to 29 countries around the world and the Internet. The 5th International technology conference of “Defence Technology, Armaments, and Dual-purpose Technology in 21st Century” will also be a part of “VTTV-Omsk”. During the exhibition a council meeting between the presidential representative in Siberia, the Siberian council of legislators, inter-regional association “Sibirskoe soglashenie” will be held, and issues such as the security of the power industry, development of the Siberian engineering industry will be discussed.
The “Arktika” takes on passengers
Omsk technicians are developing a new modification to the snow and swamp “Arktika-5D” all-terrain vehicle. The vehicle will now be able to take on 50 passengers and a load of up to 5 tonnes.
